Giants among teams interested in Kris Bryant

The Giants are among the teams interested in Cubs star Kris Bryant leading up to Friday's MLB trade deadline, according to multiple reports.

However, there's conflicting reports on how serious the trade discussions are between the two sides.

According to two reports out of San Francisco, including NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic, Triple-A catcher Joey Bart, the key prospect the Cubs are interested in, is not available for a rental such as Bryant.

Bart, 24, is the Giants' No. 2 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.

Bryant is one of the hottest names on the trade market, with the Rays and Mets also expressing levels of interest in Bryant this month.

The Giants could make sense as a long term fit for Bryant, regardless of San Francisco's trade interest now and whether they can get a deal done before the deadline. He's a Las Vegas native who still lives there in the offseason.

Scott Harris, San Francisco's general manager, was part of Cubs front office that drafted Bryant in 2013. He left for the Giants after the 2019 season and maintains strong relationships with Cubs executives.
