Pedro Strop will officially be back in the Cubs' bullpen for tonight's game

Pedro Strop is back with the Cubs.

Talking to 670 The Score's Laurence Holmes, Joe Maddon said that Strop would be activated ahead of Tuesday's game:

The move's not entirely surprising, given that Maddon told reporters on Monday afternoon that it would be "either tomorrow or the next day." In a corresponding move, the Cubs will send Dillion Maples back down to Triple-A Iowa.

Strop was put on the 10-Day IL back on May 8th with a hamstring injury. While it was not considered serious, the team and Strop agreed to take it slow with the hopes of preventing a flare up down the road.

"It's been like a week where I've been doing everything pain free," Strop told reporters on May 23rd. "We just want to make sure that nothing will happen again, so we're building strength. We're working hard to make it stronger instead of just going, 'OK, it's pain-free, let's do it again' and then run the risk of it happening again. So we're just taking care and making it stronger so we don't have that issue."

Strop was in the midst of a puzzling start to his season. His 5.06 ERA is an eye sore and his contact numbers were trending the wrong way, but his 3.70 FIP, along with an uncharacteristically-low LOB% gave fans reasons for optimism.

Regardless, the Cubs' bullpen will welcome him back with open arms. As a whole, the group has struggled since Strop was put on the IL. From that day on, the 'pen has thrown 83 IPs to the tune of a 3.90 ERA and a 4.43 FIP. Over that stretch, they've blown saves in 6 of their 11 opportunities.
