Scott Boras jokingly says that he and Bryce Harper already know what team Harper will sign with this offseason

Scott Boras and Bryce Harper might just be the most trolling agent-player duo in all of baseball.

In an interview with YES Network, Boras suggested that Harper's free agency search is over before it really began.

"We know who the team is, it's already completed and done," Boras said. "But Bryce has told me he wanted to tell you personally, so I'm gonna let him do that."

*Insert frantic reactions from Cubs and baseball fans here.*

Don't get your hopes too high, because it looks like Boras was joking around.

For fun, let's say Boras was serious during this interview. Implying Harper already made his free agency decision could have meant:

a) Harper simply knows the team he will sign with/wants to sign with in free agency, though no deal is actually done.

However, if any deal between Harper and a team was already completed, it could mean:

b) He and the Nationals have been negotiating a deal and it is already "completed and done," as Boras jokingly said. The Nationals and Harper have been able to negotiate all season.

c) Harper has decided to sign with another team not named the Nationals, which would be tampering if that team has been negotiating with him.

Eligible players cannot file for free agency until a day after the World Series ends. This could be as soon as Monday after the Red Sox won the World Series on Sunday.

MLB teams have five days to exclusively negotiate with their own free agents starting the day after the World Series ends. This five-day period starts Monday and go through Friday. This is why any team could not have "completed" a deal with Harper without tampering.

Between Boras' interview and Harper's flirtation with Chicago, the two definitely are one of the best player-agent duos in baseball at trolling. With free agency starting soon, it won't be long before fans know where Harper will be playing in 2019 and beyond.
