Willson Contreras gives young Cubs fan memory of a lifetime

File this under "what fairytales are made of."

On Monday night at Wrigley Field, starting Cubs catcher Willson Contreras - with a smile and a hug - made a young fan's dreams come true.

That fan, a seven-year-old Chicagoan named Jayden Contreras, was attending his first ever Cubs game, a surprise gift from his mother, Yadira Contreras Garcia. For Jayden, just going to the game probably would have been enough (he burst into tears of joy upon receiving the tickets). But a night of wonder went to another level entirely when he saw Willson Contreras warming up just a couple feet away from him.

"We had no idea he would have the chance to meet [Willson Contreras] that day, but by luck he was out in the field warming up with a trainer before the game," Contreras Garcia told NBC Sports Chicago. "We caught his attention with a poster that said it was [Jayden]'s first game. When my son turned around to show [Willson] that he was wearing his jersey he ran over to us. That’s when my son started crying."

Jayden was in tears by the time the older Contreras arrived, but the Cubs' starting catcher quickly pulled him in for a hug, offered a few words of encouragement and signed a baseball for him before returning to his pre-game routine. Jayden plays Little League in Berwyn and calls Contreras his favorite player.

"Willson Contreras made my sons dream come true on September 16, 2019," Garcia Contreras said. "Willson Contreras has a heart of gold!"
