Yankees-Phillies game postponed after Marlins COVID-19 outbreak

The Yankees and Phillies will not play on Monday night.

Ken Rosenthal reported the game was postponed after a COVID-19 outbreak in the visiting clubhouse, which the Yankees were set to use.

The Miami Marlins, who opened the season on the road in Philadelphia, are now reeling from a COVID-19 outbreak. It wasn't one Marlins player, it was a host of Marlins players, as much as 40 percent of their active roster.

Miami's home opener against the Orioles in Miami has also been postponed.

With the Yankees set to enter and use the same clubhouse the Marlins occupied for three days, some suspected the game could be canceled.

There was discussion of fumigating the clubhouse "50 different ways" and that still might be the plan, but getting it done in time for a game might not have been realistic.

The Phillies are quarantining and testing their entire visiting clubhouse staff and the Yankees were slated to bring their own clubhouse staff to Philly, according to Matt Gelb.

With a tight, 60-game schedule, a postponed game could be hard to make up. It might mean a double-header on Tuesday or using one of a very few days off to make up the game. These two games were the only two the Yankees were slated to play in Philadelphia.
