Yu Darvish stepped to the plate with a grin on his face as a familiar tune blared across Petco Park.
As the Padres right-hander neared the batter's box, he offered a passing glance to Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, appearing to let out a quick chuckle.
That familiar tune was none other than "Intoxicated" by Martin Solveig & GTA — also famously known as Rizzo's walk-up song at Wrigley Field.
It was a hilarious troll move by Darvish in his first appearance against the Cubs since they traded him to San Diego this winter. But it also was a nice nod from the right-hander to the Cubs first baseman.
"I used that song because it was Rizzo that kind of took care of me when things weren’t really working my way in Chicago," Darvish said.
"So it was in a way to say think you to him. Obviously I have a good relationship with him."
Rizzo gestured to Darvish in the moment, throwing his arms in the air, before the two discussed it postgame.
"We actually texted each other after the game, and I think he was pretty happy about it," Darvish said.
