Jack Daniel's celebrates Black History Month honoring entrepreneurs

Jack Daniel's is proud that the first recorded African-American Master Distiller is a part of its history. His legacy has shaped the whiskey making industry forever. And, in his honor, Jack Daniel’s celebrates Black History Month by commemorating the accomplishments, mentorship and entrepreneurship of seven prominent Black men and women across multiple industries. Malene Barnett - Artist, entrepreneur, and authority on the cultural traditions and practices of art in the African diaspora, from her sculptural ceramic tiles and vessels to mixed media paintings to handwoven rugs, Barnett continues to evolve her craft and share her African heritage with a global audience.

H. Beecher Hicks III - Consultant, banker, investor, and operating executive, Henry’s professional experiences have focused on building enterprises. In 1998, President Clinton appointed Henry to be a White House fellow.

Freddie Figgers - Inventor, computer programmer, software engineer, and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Figgers Communication Corporation, commonly referred to as Figgers, an independent, FCC-regulated telecommunications company offering cellular, mobile broadband, home phone, and international calling solutions. Freddie is the youngest person in history to hold an FCC license, which allows him to operate his own cell phone company.

Stoney Michelli Love - Graphic designer, actor, and photographer, Stoney is an African-Panamanian renaissance woman, founder and Owner of STUZO CLOTHING. She grew up in The Bronx, NY, and moved to LA in 2010, which was always a dream of hers.

Eric Williams - Founder and creative director of The Silver Room Foundation. The Silver Room’s mission is to create intentional art-centered experiences, spaces, events, and programming to increase the health, wellness, equity, and economic prosperity outcomes for communities of color on Chicago's south and west sides.

Joey Womack - Joey is the Founder/CEO of Goodie Nation, a national support nonprofit for tech-focused social entrepreneurs and diverse founders. He’s also the founder/CEO of Amplify 4 Good, a mission-driven agency that uses rapid problem-solving to help large companies, nonprofits, and government agencies create social impact.

Steve Canal - CMO at HBCU Change, co-founder of One Venture Group, brand architect, and best-selling author. Steve is a trusted partner to firms around the country that value his peerless approach to brand strategy, business development, storytelling, and targeted amplification.

Jack Daniel’s also celebrates and salutes two vital members of its family. Meet Melvin Keebler and Byron Copeland of the Jack Daniel Distillery, who help lead the charge for diversity and inclusion within the industry.

Melvin Keebler - VP and Assistant General Manager at the Jack Daniel's Distillery. Melvin recognizes the importance of continuing the legacy of the first African American Master Distiller from the 1850s. Today he works as the Assistant GM at the Jack Daniel’s distillery, where he oversees nine different departments. Melvin is a proud member of the Brown-Forman Global Production Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Brown-Forman Employee Resource Groups, BUILD and BRAVE, supporting Black and veteran employees, he helps ensure Jack Daniel's is fulfilling its diversity and inclusion goals.

Byron Copeland - NJAI Leadership Acceleration Program Participant at the Jack Daniel’s Cooperage. Byron has led many philanthropic teams at different sites, including the community engagement team at Jack Daniel Cooperage, for the past three years. For him, mentorship is everything “I have had several mentors in my life. I try to take a piece of everyone that has been a positive influence and those I like to call my mentors.”
