Jim Miller talks about the return of harness racing to Hawthorne Racecourse

For the first time in eight years, harness racing is returning to Hawthorne Racecourse.

This year, Hawthorne will host both harness and thoroughbred racing, and harness racing kicked off Friday night.

Hawthorne's do-it-all man Jim Miller stopped by SportsTalk Live to talk about the return of harness racing and the challenges of racing two breeds of horses.

"We had harness racing from 2004 to 2008, and it was just something where it worked in the schedule and worked really nicely," Miller told CSN's David Kaplan. "They were looking for a home for harness racing in Illinois, and it just so happened that it worked out with our schedule with thoroughbreds that we had some time in January into February and we have a whole lot of time in the summer. So right now, we have two breeds of horses on our back side at Hawthorne, but we're really excited to have racing starting (Friday) night."

Check out the video above for more of Kaplan's chat with Miller, and see what Miller had to say during a stop in the AT&T U-verse Lounge in the video below.
