DePaul begins search for new head basketball coach

The DePaul University men's basketball program has relieved head coach Dave Leitao of his duties. In a statement made on Monday, Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy said, "After evaluating where our men’s basketball program is currently and where we envision it to be moving forward, a decision was made to make a change in the head coaching position."

In nine season as head coach (2002-05, 2015-21), Leitao held a 127-146 overall record and led the Blue Demons to one NCAA Tournament appearance in 2004. The change in leadership comes after the team went 5-14 this past season.

"We will conduct a national search beginning immediately for our next head coach. I’m committed to elevating our program to where we are still competing during this time of year," Peevy said.
