For the first time since 2008, Northern Illinois have scheduled a game against a Southeastern Conference team when they will take on Arkansas in 2014.

The game is scheduled for Sept. 20, 2014, and will be played at Arkansas Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The game is also the first time the Huskies will play an SEC team since 2008, when they lost 13-9 to Tennessee in Knoxville.

In a statement on NIUs website Wednesday, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Jeff Compher said the schedule meets the teams overall schedule philosophy.

Its always good to play elite schools from other conferences, Compher said in the statement. This is a place we havent been to for quite some time and provides a great opportunity to showcase our program in an SEC venue. Its a game our players and our fans will look forward to. I want to thank Arkansas AD Jeff Long and his staff for working with us to get this game on the 2014 schedule.

All time, NIU are 1-8 against teams that make up the current SEC. Their only win came in 2003 when they upset No. 21 Alabama 19-16.

The 2012 Huskies are currently 4-1, 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference. They travel to Ball State on Saturday.
