DeShone Kizer, three other Notre Dame players submit requests for NFL Draft evaluations

LOS ANGELES — Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer, left tackle Mike McGlinchey, left guard Quenton Nelson and linebacker Nyles Morgan had their names submitted for evaluation to the NFL Draft Advisory Board, coach Brian Kelly said after the Irish ended their season with a 45-27 loss to USC on Saturday

Schools are allowed to submit no more than five players with college eligibility remaining for evaluation to the advisory board, which will return one of three opinions: First round, second round, or stay in school.

McGlinchey has maintained he will stay at Notre Dame for a fifth year in 2017, so he’s likely only seeking feedback from the board on what to work on for his final college season. Nelson, a redshirt sophomore in 2016, has been projected as a first-round pick in some mock drafts, though there hasn’t been much chatter about him leaving early. Morgan would seem likely to receive a “stay in school” grade from the advisory board and is likely to be a senior captain in 2017 if he indeed remains at Notre Dame.

That leaves Kizer, who CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler projects to be the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft if he does declare early. Kizer said he hasn’t made his stay-or-go decision yet and will take a methodical, calculated approach to it, and doesn’t have to make a decision until Jan. 16.

Kizer threw for 2,925 yards with 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions, and also rushed eight touchdowns, in 2016.

“I know that the draft is a very unique opportunity and there’s obviously a lot of factors that go into it and it’s virtually unpredictable where you may land and where you may go,” Kizer said. “It’s completely in someone else’s hands. I think that this season was a decent representation of who I am as an athlete. Whatever they choose to do for that one report is what they choose to do. I think there’s a lot more information we’re going to have to bring in before we actually make a final decision.”
