Notre Dame dropped from No. 9 to No. 21 in the latest USA Today coaches poll released Tuesday morning, two days after the Irish lost in double overtime at Texas.

Notre Dame was one of three top-10 teams to lose in Week 1, joining Oklahoma (No. 3 to No. 13) and LSU (No. 6 to No. 23) in slipping in the rankings.

Texas, which was unranked in the preseason coaches poll, debuted at No. 20. Three future Irish opponents moved up after Week 1: Stanford, from No. 7 to No. 5; and Michigan State, from No. 11 to No. 8.

USC, which was No. 17 prior to the season but was blown out by No. 1 Alabama on Saturday, was unranked in Tuesday’s poll and only received six votes.

In the AP poll, Notre Dame dropped from No. 10 to No. 18 while Texas leapt from unranked to No. 11. Stanford moved up a spot to No. 7, while Michigan State held at No. 12 and Miami entered the poll at No. 25. USC did not receive any votes in the AP poll.
