Notre Dame gets good injury news on WR Corey Robinson

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly called it “unbelievable” that his team suffered yet another injury before Saturday’s blowout win over UMass, with junior wide receiver Corey Robinson tweaking his knee during pregame warmups.

Robinson missed Saturday’s game, but an MRI Sunday morning revealed “no damage” in his knee. Kelly said Robinson is expected to be full go when Notre Dame begins practicing Tuesday for Saturday’s showdown at Clemson.

The San Antonio native only has four catches for 45 yards this year, with senior Chris Brown appearing to have a firm grip on Notre Dame’s No. 1 boundary-side receiver role. Robinson caught 40 passes for 539 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore in 2014.

Kelly said graduate student safety Avery Sebastian, who fractured a bone in his foot Week 1 against Texas, had an X-Ray Sunday and is still at least three weeks away from returning to practice. Sebastian was initially given a four-to-six-week timetable for his recovery.

Sophomore tight end Tyler Luatua missed Saturday’s game against UMass with a concussion, and Kelly said he and Notre Dame’s medical staff will be “very, very cautious” in clearing Luatua given it’s the second concussion he’s suffered in his college career.

“I’m not concerned, but we are definitely going to take the proper steps and not rush him until he’s 100 percent ready to go,” Kelly said.
