For the first time in the longest continual intersectional rivalry in college football, Notre Dame and Navy will play in California.

Navy announced Wednesday its 2018 game with Notre Dame will be played at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, which is home to over 35,000 Navy sailors. The game will be played Oct. 27.

"We are excited about the opportunity to play a regular-season game against Notre Dame in San Diego, which is a city filled with Navy and Marine Corps service men and women." Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk. “The partnership the Naval Academy has had with the bowl administration in San Diego has been extraordinary for well over a decade. This special matchup with Notre Dame will mirror in many ways the highly successful event format that has brought great success to the economy, city, and community over the years. We are so very pleased to bring the Navy family together again in this wonderful environment for what is always a highly competitive match up against two institutions with unparalleled national respect and tradition. We are all looking forward to 2018.”

Notre Dame and Navy will meet for the 89th time Oct. 10, 2015 in South Bend and will play 2016's game at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. The two programs always alternate between playing in South Bend and at a neutral site.

Notre Dame has not officially unveiled its 2018 schedule but will play two games in California that year, with its annual game against USC taking place in Los Angeles.

Navy is no longer an independent program having joined the American Athletic Conference July 1 of this year.
