Notre Dame on Friday confirmed the suspension of freshman wide receiver Jalen Guyton for an undisclosed matter.

“University of Notre Dame freshman wide receiver Jalen Guyton has been suspended from all football-related activities pending the resolution of a private University process,” the university said in a statement.

Guyton, a native of Allen, Texas who was rated by Rivals.com as a three-star recruit, redshirted this fall. Irish Illustrated reported Guyton intends to transfer following the fall semester, which ended Friday.

Notre Dame has in its 2016 recruiting class verbal commitments from two receivers — four-star Abbotsford, British Columbia native Chase Claypool and three-star Jacksonville, Fla. native Kevin Stepherson. Graduate student Amir Carlisle and senior Chris Brown will play their final games for Notre Dame against Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl, and leading receiver Will Fuller could declare for the NFL Draft next month as well.

Guyton was one of four receivers to sign with Notre Dame in February, joining C.J. Sanders, Miles Boykin and Equanimeous St. Brown. Both Sanders and St. Brown played this fall — Sanders returned a punt and a kick for a touchdown — while Boykin, who redshirted, was praised by coach Brian Kelly for his behind-the-scenes development.
