TE Chase Hounshell will transfer from Notre Dame to Ohio State

Chase Hounshell's college career will, in a way, come full circle this fall.

The sixth-year tight end announced Monday he'll transfer to Ohio State to play his final year of college football. Hounshell initially pledged a verbal commitment to Florida before the 2010 season -- while Urban Meyer still coached there -- but flipped to Notre Dame a few weeks before signing day. Meyer left Florida after the 2010 season and returned to college football with the Buckeyes in 2012.

Hounshell never was able to make much of an on-field impact during his time at Notre Dame. As a defensive lineman, he played in seven games as a true freshman in 2011 and made four tackles, but injuries sidelined him for all but one game in 2012 and 2013. After struggling on the defensive side of things upon returning in 2014, Hounshell flipped to tight end and played all 13 games (with three starts) last fall.

The Kirkland, Ohio native was mostly used as a blocking tight end but caught one pass in 2015.
