Jimmy Butler, Nikola Mirotic struggle in USA's close win over Spain

It wasn't pretty for Jimmy Butler or Nikola Mirotic in USA Basketball's 82-76 win over Spain.

Offensively, the Bulls players struggled to find their rhythm, combining for seven points on 2/12 shooting.

Butler missed all five of his shots from the field and was held scoreless, but played a solid floor game to contribute two offensive rebounds, two steals and one assist for the U.S.

Mirotic's performance was disrupted by foul trouble. The 25-year-old was whistled for four first-half fouls and had to sit for extended minutes. His two baskets came in the waning moments of Spain's loss.

While current Bulls couldn't find their groove, former Bulls forward Pau Gasol put up 23 points and eight rebounds for Spain. Gasol was beating up on USA's big men throughout the early portion of the game, but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Klay Thompson led the charge for USA Basketball, scoring 22 points on 8/16 shooting. True to his NBA style, Thompson did most of his damage from beyond the arc. DeAndre Jordan added nine points, 16 rebounds and four blocks for the U.S.

With the win, the U.S. advance to their third consecutive gold medal game. They will play the winner of Australia vs. Serbia on Sunday at 1:45 p.m.
