It was a busy weekend for Chicago sports fans. North and South Siders came together for the Crosstown Series and to bid farewell to legendary broadcaster Hawk Harrelson.
The Bears went out west looking for a win. Blackhawks preseason is well under way and the Bulls are about to start training camp.
Bears
Don't look now, but the Bears are atop the NFC North in first place. Mitchell Trubisky continued to struggle but it was surprising to see the Bears defense get off to a slow start. Fortunately, the defense rebounded in the second half thanks to unlikely contributors Bilal Nichols and Sherrick McManis. The offense still believes in their potential despite another uneven showing.
The Cardinals tried to catch the Bears defense off-guard by putting in rookie Josh Rosen in the final minutes of a tight game, but Khalil Mack and gang were ready.
White Sox
News
The great Ken 'Hawk' Harrelson bid farewell to the White Sox faithful in an incredible moment. Unfortunately, the White Sox couldn't get a win but Hawk went out the way he came. And while losing to the Cubs at home is never easy, the Cubs success and status as championship contender is the light that awaits at the end of the White Sox rebuilding tunnel.
Oh, and Kanye West threw out the first pitch.
Cubs
After winning the Crosstown Cup, the Cubs' magic number is down to five. The team isn't feeling the pressure and Kyle Schwarber is heating up a week away from October baseball. The big question mark is Kris Bryant's shoulder, but the Cubs insist there isn't any cause for concern.
And Javy Baez looks to finish the season and solidify his claim to the NL MVP.
Other
Jimmy Butler wants out of Minnesota and the Bulls trade for Lauri Markkanen, Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn is looking pretty good right now. Markkanen maybe even through some shade at the Timberwolves.
