School: DeKalb Barbs
Head coach: Matt Weckler
Assistant coaches: Tyler Bell, Dan Smaha, Tyrone Williams, Tim Holt
How they fared in 2015: 9-3 (4-0) Northern Illinois Big 12 East Conference. DeKalb made the Class 6A state playoff field and defeated Hampshire and Deerfield before losing to eventual state champion Montini Catholic in the quarterfinal round.
Biggest storyline in 2016: Can the Barbs continue their winning ways this season?
Names to watch this season: Quarterback Derek Kyler, wide receiver Cole Tucker (Northern Illinois)
Biggest holes to fill: The Barbs will need to reload on both the offensive and defensive lines.
EDGY's early take: DeKalb has been a nice success story under Weckler, who has led the Barbs to three straight IHSA state playoff appearances. Kyler is a name to watch, and if DeKalb can fill in upfront on both sides of the line, they have a great chance at a fourth straight state playoff appearance.
