70 Days to Kickoff: Highland Park

CSNChicago.com preps reporter "Edgy" Tim O’Halloran spotlights 100 high school football teams in 100 days. The first 75 team profiles will focus on teams making strides across Chicagoland and elsewhere in the state. Starting Aug. 1, we’ll unveil the @CSNPreps Top 25 Power Rankings, leading up to kickoff on Friday, Aug. 26. You can view Edgy Tim's other football previews here.

School: Highland Park Giants

Head coach: Joe Horeni

Assistant coaches: Davy Lindquist, Ed Garza, Joe Chiodo, James Ori, Anthony Kopp, Jimmy Knotek, Chris Volpe, Joe Chiodo, Jim Berardi, Don McCord, Mick Viken, Bob McCraren

How they fared in 2015: 3-6 (2-3); Central Suburban North Conference. Highland Park failed to make the 2015 IHSA state playoff field.

Biggest storyline in 2016: Can the Giants get back to their usual winning ways in 2016?

Names to watch this season: RB DJ Penick, OL/DL David Barrette

Biggest holes to fill: The Giants will be seeking some help on the defensive line this fall, having to replace several spots due to graduation.

EDGY's Early Take: The Giants will bring back 12 returning starters this season. I fully expect Highland Park to be in contention for the Central Suburban North conference crown in 2016.
