Biggest storyline: Can the Green Wave reload and replace several multi-year starters lost to graduation this spring?

Names to watch this season: RB/LB Nick Wright and WR/DB Sidney Muhammed

Biggest holes to fill: The Green Wave will need to replace several graduated starters including standout QB Dylan Mlinarich.

EDGY's Early Take: The Green Wave just missed out on the 2017 state playoff because of low playoff points and will need to reload for this coming season with just two starters back on both sides of the football. Look for St. Edward to get the football into the hands of RB Nick Wright quite a bit this fall while WR Sidney Muhammed will also be another experienced playmaker this fall.

Preseason Preps Basketball Power Rankings: No. 10 Bloom

NBC Sports Chicago

Preseason Preps Basketball Power Rankings: No. 10 Bloom

2017-18 record:
16-11, 6-4 Southland

Postseason results: Lost to Marist in Class 4A regional finals.

Players to watch: The perimeter trio of juniors Donovan Newby, Keshawn Williams and Dante Maddox Jr. are all worth watching as they form one of the best backcourts in the state. Junior big man Martice Mitchell provides size inside at 6-foot-9 while Kevin Vance was an intriguing forward this summer.

Why they're in the power rankings: A year ago, Bloom had the talent to compete with anyone in the area. But with four sophomores and one junior in the starting lineup, the Blazing Trojans were too young. Now, a year later, Bloom looks like a very dangerous team after a strong summer. The Blazing Trojans have multiple Division I prospects on a team with huge aspirations.

Did you know? Bloom will play one of the elite schedules in the area this season. The Blazing Trojans are scheduled to take part in the Chicago Heights Classic, Chicago Elite Classic, Pontiac Holiday Tournament and When Sides Collide Shootout -- to name a few marquee events.

Preseason Preps Basketball Power Rankings: No. 11 Benet

NBC Sports Chicago

Preseason Preps Basketball Power Rankings: No. 11 Benet

2017-18 record: 27-5, 8-1 East Suburban Catholic

Postseason results: Lost to Larkin in Class 4A super-sectionals.

Players to watch: Returning starters include senior forward Will Engels and junior center Colin Crothers while the program also received a surprising Division I prospect transfer in 6-foot-6 forward Kendrick Tchoua.

Why they're in the power rankings: Benet would probably be ranked without the addition of another Division I prospect, but the frontcourt of Engels, Crothers and Tchoua figures to be one of the area's best. The Redwings should once again be a major factor in the East Suburban Catholic Conference as long as their guard play can match teams like St. Viator.

Did you know? Benet has nine consecutive 20-win seasons under head coach Gene Heidkamp as he's built a consistent winner. The Redwings have won four sectional titles and made two state finals appearances during that nine-year run.
