Class 2A: Byron beats Teutopolis for first state championship

NORMAL — Paige Holloway scored 17 points to lead Byron over Teutopolis, 53-44, in Saturday's Class 2A title game, giving the Tigers their first state championship.

Bailey Burrows scored 13 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Lexi DeVries added 11 points for Byron (33-3).

Raegan Drees led Teutopolis (29-7) with 11 points. Jamie Sandschafer scored 10 points, while Anna Hartke grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds.

Byron led for all but one minute in the third quarter. Shelby Thompson hit a 3-pointer for the Teutopolis with a minute left in the game, pulling the Lady Shoes to 48-42.

Teutopolis defeated St. Joseph, 45-43, in Friday's semifinals to advance to the championship game, while Byron beat Camp Point, 55-31, in its semifinal matchup.

Teutopolis placed third in the state tournament in 2014.
