The Iowa Hawkeyes added another piece to its Class of 2016 recruiting puzzle when Crystal Lake Central senior three-star ranked defensive end recruit Romeo McKnight (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) gave Iowa his verbal commitment at a press conference Monday afternoon.
McKnight, who saw his recruiting stock soar after a successful spring camp season, had nine scholarship offers and narrowed down his favorites to Iowa, Toledo and Bowling Green. McKnight had also drawn increased recruiting interest this summer from both Purdue and Illinois.
McKnight, who is also a state heavyweight champion wrestler, is the 18th known verbal commitment for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2016. McKnight joins Phillips outside linebacker Amani Jones, Niles North running back Barrington Wade and Sycamore linebacker Nick Niemann as Land of Lincoln pledges for Iowa in the Class of 2016.
