HF Vikings' Craig Buzea on Drive: ‘Our kids deserved it'

Homewood-Flossmoor head coach Craig Buzea enters his sixth season at the helm, and he joined Friday's Kap & Haugh show to discuss what he's looking forward to most about being this season's Drive team.

"I think it's a win-win, not only for our program but for our community and our school," he told Kaplan. "Having watched several of the episodes before on other teams I just thought our kids deserve this, our community deserves this and we thought we'd give it a go. So I think it's a win-win for everyone, and we're really looking forward to it."

With a core of returning starters on both sides of the ball, Buzea is confident his team won't lose any focus having cameras on them all season as they attempt to earn the program's second state championship.

"When we found out we were going to be the Drive team we had that discussion, and we had that discussion several other times. We told them, first of all, how fortunate they were to be chosen and honored, which we are," he said. "But also that it can't take away from our everyday process, what we're trying to do and the journey we're trying to enjoy and forunate for us we have some pretty level-headed kids and kids that have been in some pretty big-time atmospheres already and a lot of maturity and we think they're going to be able to handle it."
