Libertyville junior defensive tackle recruit Ryan O'Malley (6-foot-4, 255 pounds) had a pretty good idea he would wind up committing to Illinois after he made a recent Junior Day visit, his first unofficial visit as a prospect for the University of Illinois.
"I had a pretty good feeling that I would wind up committing to Illinois after my first Junior Day visit," O'Malley said. "Illinois offered me a scholarship and it's always been my dream school."
O'Malley gave Illinois and head coach Bill Cubit his verbal commitment this morning then O'Malley announced his decision via his Twitter account.

"Illinois is just a perfect fit for me. The combination of academics and athletics is exactly what I was looking for in a school," O'Malley said. I waited a bit before I committed and it seemed like more schools started to show me more recruiting interest. Yet, I have such a passion for Illinois that I couldn't see myself going to any other school. I talked it over with my family and my coaches and everyone is very excited for me."
O'Malley, whose parents also attended the University of Illinois, becomes the Fighting Illini's first in-state commitment and the second overall in the Class of 2017, joining Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Aquinas junior three-star running back Mike Epstein (5-foot-11, 183 pounds) in the Illinois class.
