A handful of Chicagoland Class of 2017 recruits who had been verbally committed to Western Michigan are now in limbo now that former head coach P.J. Fleck has moved on to Minnesota.

Phillips three-star ranked defensive tackle Chris Elmore (6-foot-0, 270 pounds) reopened his recruiting process the same day that Fleck left for Minnesota, yet Elmore is still considering Western Michigan and has planned an official visit to Kalamazoo this weekend.

"I'm going to take an official visit this weekend to Western Michigan," Elmore said. "Syracuse has offered me. Army also reached out and they said they would be in touch with me soon. The Toledo coaches also started to follow me on Twitter. I'm also still very open to Western Michigan and hopefully they can hire a new coach soon."

Bishop McNamara senior two-star offensive tackle Dylan Deatherage (6-foot-6, 270 pounds) was another early verbal commitment to Western Michigan. Deatherage has also reopened his recruiting process and drew some quick scholarship offers.

"Both Ohio University and Ball State offered me a scholarship right away," Deatherage said. "It seems like a lot of the MAC schools are very interested and they are planning to get ahold of me once the dead period is over with later this week. Illinois also has some interest. I committed to WMU so early that I never really gave any other schools much of a look. I'm still open to Western Michigan and I'm going to take an official visit to WMU this weekend. Right now I'm still very open at this stage."

Two of the top kickers in Chicagoland gave verbal commitment over the past few days. Maine South senior kicker Sean McNulty announced his commitment to West Point via his Twitter account and St. Rita kicker/punter Tim Zaleski gave Wyoming his commitment. Zaleski (6-foot-5, 220 pounds) was offered as a punter by the Cowboys and head coach Craig Bohl.

Prairie Ridge junior offensive linemen Jeff Jenkins (6-foot-4, 260 pounds) added two recent offers from Toledo and Bowling Green.

"I just picked up an offer on Monday from Bowling Green," Jenkins said. "I also added an offer from Toledo last Friday. I have offers now from Bowling Green, Toledo, NIU, Central Michigan and Ball State."

Jenkins, who's planning to visit Toledo on Monday, has also drawn recruiting interest this winter from Miami (OH), Illinois, Indiana and Penn State.
