Scott Phillips' Top 25 Preps Power Rankings
25. St. Patrick (8-1, 2-0) (NR)
Entering the CSN Preps Power Rankings for the first time is the Shamrocks as they've only fallen to No. 22 De La Salle so far this season. With six straight wins, St. Pat's has a lost of positive momentum entering York next week.
24. Geneva (9-0, 3-0) (NR)
The Upstate Eight River continues to look like a tough league as the Vikings remain unscathed thus far. Picking up a win over rival Batavia was solid during the weekend as Geneva tries to carry that momentum into the DeKalb Holiday Tournament.
23. Hillcrest (7-3, 4-0) (NR)
Entering the CSN Preps Power Rankings once again are the Hawks as they've reeled off four consecutive wins. Hillcrest made quick work of Argo in South Suburban play this week as they're off until they play at Proviso West in a couple of weeks.
22. De La Salle (7-1, 2-1) (19)
The Meteors finally dropped their first game of the season at Fenwick in the Catholic North. De La Salle doesn't play during the week as they'll be one of the teams to watch at York during holiday tournament week.
21. Wheaton-Warrenville South (9-0, 5-0) (NR)
The Tigers are still undefeated on the year as they earned DuPage Valley wins over Naperville North and Neuqua Valley during the week. Wheaton-Warrenville South gets a conference game on the road at Metea Valley on Tuesday night before they go to Bloomington to play in the Large School division of the State Farm Holiday Tournament.
20. Thornton (5-3, 2-0) (20)
Thornton went 1-1 on the week as they earned an easy Southwest Suburban Red win over Bradley-Bourbonnais before losing in St. Louis against Vashon (MO). Thornton will be the heavy favorite to win at the Big Dipper this year.
19. Bloom (6-2, 2-0) (16)
For the second time this season, Bloom fell to Homewood-Flossmoor as those are the only blemishes on the Bloom record. The Blazing Trojans responded nicely the night after the loss with a double-digit win over Mount Carmel at Crete-Monee.
18. Homewood-Flossmoor (7-1, 1-0) (NR)
It was probably a mistake dropping the Vikings from the rankings and they made that known with a solid 10-point win over Bloom. Homewood-Flossmoor doesn't have any games this week as they get ready to be one of the better teams in the Hinsdale Central field.
17. Conant (8-2, 2-1) (24)
After falling to Fremd the week before, Conant did a nice job of bouncing back with solid wins over Barrington and Benet. The non-conference win over the Redwings, in particular, was a great effort from Conant. The Cougars don't play during this week as they'll be one of the stronger teams in the deep field at York.
16. Fremd (9-0, 3-0) (23)
Fremd proved itself worthy of a move up the rankings with two more wins as they took down Schaumburg in the Mid-Suburban West before earning a good non-conference win over Notre Dame. The Vikings don't have any games during the week and they'll be a favorite at the Wheeling Hardwood Classic the week after.
15. Marist (8-0, 2-0) (18)
Another unbeaten team who needs to play better competition, the RedHawks beat Mount Carmel and Nazareth in East Suburban Catholic play. Marist hosts its own tournament during the week as they're scheduled to play Southland, Bowen, Johnson and Tinley Park during the week.
14. Jacobs (8-0, 3-0) (18)
The Golden Eagles are unbeaten but they still need to be more seriously tested. Jacobs knocked off Marian Central in the opening game of the Jacobs Holiday Tournament this weekend as they continue with pool play games against Sullivan and Bartlett this weekend.
13. Oak Park-River Forest (9-1, 3-0) (17)
The Huskies continue to stack up wins as they beat York and Glenbard West for West Suburban Silver victories. Oak Park-River Forest is off this week as they try to get ready for a brutal field at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament.
12. Orr (4-1, 2-1) (14)
Orr earned a tight Red-West win over Farragut during the week before their weekend game against Milwaukee Vincent was postponed. Orr doesn't have any games coming up this week as the prep for a holiday tournament in Detroit.
11. Uplift (8-2, 3-0) (8)
Uplift dropped its second game of the season but both have come against out-of-state opponents. The Titans went to St. Louis and got roughed up by Webster Groves (MO) but they did manage to pick up an easy Red-North win over Prosser. Uplift is off this week as they get ready to test themselves at Proviso West.
10. North Lawndale (8-2, 2-1) (10)
North Lawndale was involved with a couple of close games this week as they dropped a tight Red-West game to No. 9 Whitney Young before bouncing back with a win in St. Louis over Christian Brothers (Mo). The Phoenix don't play this week as they'll be one of the favorites in the Large School division of the State Farm Classic in Bloomington.
9. Whitney Young (5-2, 2-0) (11)
It was a good week for the Dolphins as they earned a tough Red-West win over No. 10 North Lawndale while also going to Dallas and knocking off DeSoto (TX). This is a big week for Whitney Young as they play No. 2 Simeon at UIC before they go to Proviso West later this month.
8. Fenwick (8-0, 3-0) (9)
Fenwick made a major statement with its Catholic North win over previously-unbeaten De La Salle last Friday night as seniors Jacob Keller and Jamal Nixon continued a strong start. The Friars get another test with a road game at Benet on Wednesday before they play at Proviso West for holiday tournament time.
7. Kenwood (8-1, 4-0) (7)
A couple of double-digit wins in the Red-Central for the Broncos as they beat up on Lindblom and DuSable. Kenwood is doing a good job of keeping pace with conference leader Curie early this season. The Broncos will face Ben Davis (IN) on Friday night.
6. Bolingbrook (6-0, 1-0) (6)
The Raiders continued to show their depth with a huge non-conference win over Romeoville. Bolingbrook doesn't play this week as they gear up for the Hinsdale Central Holiday Classic.
5. Joliet West (9-0, 3-0) (5)
Joliet West continues its impressive start after double-digit wins over Lockport and Plainfield South. The Tigers have a Southwest Prairie matchup with Romeoville on Thursday as they try to prepare for the Pontiac Holiday Tournament.
4. Evanston (10-1, 3-0) (4)
Things continue to go well for the Wildkits as they went 3-0. Evanston beat rival New Trier in the Central Suburban South while also beating St. Vincent-St. Mary and Pickerington North at an event in Ohio. Evanston has this week off before playing in the nationally-recognized Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
3. Morgan Park (6-1, 3-1) (2)
The Mustangs fell to Red-South rival Simeon but they did earn wins over Vocational and Moreau Catholic (CA). Morgan Park has this week off as they prepare for the Proviso West Holiday Tournament.
2. Simeon (6-0, 4-0) (3)
Huge statement from the Wolverines this week as they look like they'll be a major force this season. Simeon took down Bogan and won on the road at Morgan Park in the Red-South while also flying to Dallas and picking up a victory over Highland Park (Tx).
1. Curie (9-0, 4-0) (1)
The Condors remain unbeaten as they picked up easy Red-Central wins over Dunbar and Hyde Park during the week. Curie is off this week before they have an important stretch in a loaded field at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament.
