Scott Phillips' Top 25 Preps Power Rankings
A few new teams enter the CSN Preps Power Rankings as a busy week of tournaments begin.
25. DePaul Prep (17-7, 7-2) (25)
DePaul Prep went 1-1 during the week as the rolled past Providence-St. Mel before falling to No. 13 Fenwick in overtime. The Rams are still young but they have a lot of talent. DePaul Prep faces Mount Carmel in the Catholic League Tournament this week.
24. Loyola Academy (16-6, 7-2) (21)
Loyola Academy dropped a few spots after a loss to No. 13 Fenwick but they rallied with a big win over Marmion. The Ramblers host St. Rita this week and will also be an intriguing team to watch in the Catholic League Tournament as they open with Providence.
23. Notre Dame (19-5, 4-2) (NR)
The Dons are back in the mix after a solid double-digit win over ESCC leader Marist. The ESCC's top two teams, St. Viator and Marist, have two losses between them in conference play and both came against Notre Dame in the last week. The Dons host Marian Central and Von Steuben this week.
22. T.F. North (18-3, 10-0) (NR)
Entering the CSN Preps Power Rankings is South Suburban Blue co-leader T.F. North as the Meteors have been winning games by huge margins recently. T.F. North hasn't played the toughest schedule this season but they also have barely any losses in the area since two of the team's three defeats came to downstate teams during holiday time. T.F. North gets a huge conference clash with co-leader Hillcrest this Friday that will be very important in the South suburbs.
21. Joliet Central (19-3, 9-1) (24)
Two more double-digit wins for Joliet Central this week as they took care of Lockport and Plainfield South. The Steelmen have another winnable game this week against Plainfield North.
20. Kenwood (15-6, 8-2) (22)
Kenwood had last week off as they prepare to face Collins in the first round of the Public League Playoffs. The Broncos have potentially the toughest second round test of anyone if they face Bogan and they also might face No. 7 Whitney Young in the quarterfinals if both teams make it that far.
19. Benet (18-6, 3-3) (20)
The Redwings rolled past Stevenson and Marian Central for a solid week as they are starting to string together some wins. The Redwings have an ESCC road game at Carmel and also host St. Charles North this week. Seniors Jack Nolan and Liam Lyman continue to play at a high level.
18. Conant (19-4, 6-2) (19)
Conant cruised by Lake Park and Hoffman Estates for easy double-figure wins as it helped prepare them for a busy week. The Cougars get Larkin, a conference game with Palatine and a tough non-conference road game at St. Patrick's this week.
17. Brother Rice (20-3, 7-0) (18)
The Crusaders continue to play really good ball lately as they earned Catholic League South wins over St. Laurence and Leo to claim the first outright conference title since 2005. Brother Rice will play in the Catholic League Tournament this week where they start with either Marmion or Providence-St. Mel.
16. North Lawndale (18-6, 7-3) (15)
The Phoenix lost to No. 14 Orr during the week in the Red-West as they draw DuSable in the first round of the Public League Playoffs. If North Lawndale advances they could see Lincoln Park in the second round and Morgan Park in the quarterfinals.
15. Prospect (19-4, 7-1) (16)
A solid three-win week for the Knights as they defeated Glenbrook North, Wheeling and Lyons. The leaders of the Mid-Suburban East will face Elk Grove and Niles North this week.
14. Orr (14-4, 8-2) (14)
Nice win to end conference season for Orr as they beat No. 16 North Lawndale. The Spartans will play Phillips in the first round of the Public League Playoffs. They could face Von Steuben in the second round and Curie in the quarterfinals.
13. Fenwick (19-4, 9-0) (13)
The Catholic League North champions proved themselves this week with two conference wins over No. 24 Loyola Academy and No. 25 DePaul Prep. Fenwick opens the Catholic League Tournament with either Montini or St. Francis de Sales.
12. Thornton (15-4, 7-0) (12)
Thornton survived an upset bid from Lincoln-Way West during the week as they played that one without three starters including star Alonzo Verge (violation of team rules). The Wildcats face Bradley-Bourbonnais and Andrew during the week.
11. Geneva (25-0, 9-0) (11)
The Vikings took down rival Batavia to stay unbeaten as the Vikings continue to play with a ton of confidence. Geneva gets another tough game this week when they host St. Charles East for a conference clash.
10. Wheaton-Warrenville Souh (23-1, 12-0) (10)
Wheaton-Warrenville South survived an upset attempt from Neuqua Valley to stay unbeaten in the DuPage Valley Conference. The Tigers get two more conference games this week with Naperville Central and Waubonsie Valley.
9. Fremd (21-0, 8-0) (9)
Fremd also stayed unbeaten this week as they earned a Mid-Suburban West win over Barrington. Things pick up for the Vikings this week as they have three games away from home. Fremd has games at Glenbrook North, Hoffman Estates and a game against Lake Forest at Deerfield this week.
8. Joliet West (19-3, 10-0) (8)
The Southwest Prairie leaders had a 20-point win over Plainfield East this week. The Tigers get another winnable game in conference play as they play Plainfield Central this week.
7. Whitney Young (17-5, 8-1) (7)
The Dolphins handled Westinghouse in their final Red-West game of the season as they face Robeson in the first round of the Public League Playoffs. The Dolphins could see Vocational in the second round and No. 20 Kenwood in the quarterfinals if they continue to advance.
6. Evanston (20-3, 8-0) (6)
The Wildkits won both of their games by huge numbers this week as they beat rival New Trier and defending Class 3A champion Belleville Althoff (without Jordan Goodwin). Evanston will travel to Glenbrook South this week.
5. Uplift (20-4, 10-0) (5)
The Red-North champions knocked off Lincoln Park during the week as they face Urban Prep-Englewood in the first round of the Public League Playoffs. The Titans might play Farragut in the second round before a potential clash with Simeon in the quarterfinals.
4. Simeon (19-2, 8-2) (4)
Simeon had last week off as the defending Public League Playoff champions open against Schurz. The Wolverines could get a solid test in Hyde Park in the second round while they could face Red-North champion Uplift in the quarterfinals.
3. Morgan Park (15-4, 9-1) (3)
The Mustangs took a loss to Webster Groves, a talented team from Missouri, but they'll still be a major factor in the Public League Playoffs. Morgan Park starts with Mather in the first round and they could see Marshall in the second round and No. 16 North Lawndale in the quarterfinals.
2. Curie (20-2, 10-0) (2)
The Condors are going to be one of the favorites in the Public League Playoffs as they play Clemente in the first round. If Curie advances they could see Brooks in the second round and No. 14 Orr in the quarterfinals.
1. Bolingbrook (21-0, 6-0) (1)
Another solid week for our No. 1 team as the Raiders look like a potential team to beat in Class 4A right now. Bolingbrook knocked off Belleville East, Plainfield East and Lockport during the week as senior Nana Akenten continues to play very well. This week will be another tough one for the Raiders as they play Stagg and at Homewood-Flossmoor in conference play.
