Simeon forward Ben Coupet heading to UNLV

One of the top uncommitted seniors in the Class of 2016 found a college Monday. Simeon forward Ben Coupet is heading to UNLV.

The 6-foot-7 Coupet averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game for the Wolverines during his senior season, coming on strong late in the season.

A big wing who can play outside or do some damage on the interior, Coupet is at his best in the open floor, which enables him to use his athleticism.

A three-star prospect, according to Rivals, Coupet came into Simeon as a highly-touted freshman and took a few years to figure out his role. As a senior, he stepped up in a lot of big games late in the season, his play helping push Simeon to a third-place finish in Class 4A.

Coupet knocked down four first-quarter 3-pointers in the city semifinal win over Morgan Park and was the team's leading scorer and rebounder in a few playoff wins.

UNLV is a situation where Coupet could see early minutes. The Runnin' Rebels are rebuilding nearly the entire roster under new head coach Marvin Menzies.
