Refs' impasse with NFL poses sticky issue for players

The sluggish talks between the NFL and its officials association over a new contract for the latter has the league announcing now that it will hedge its risk by beginning to hire replacement officials for the 2012 season.

This puts the NFL Players Association in an interesting spot.

The NFLPA is working at strengthening its imagestanding as a union. The bounty situation with New Orleans players, criticism of the collective bargaining agreement reached last year the association is playing a little more defense than it would like.

So if the players association union is looking for support, what does it instruct its members to do if the league brings in scab officials? Do they cross any picket lines? Do they boycott the usual rules meetings and briefings held in training camp?

Best guess is that an agreement is reached. But if it isnt?
