The Chicago Cubs have made it clear that just about everyone on the current roster is available and will be available through the July 31 trade deadline. But one name thathad not surfaced muchin trade rumors was second baseman Darwin Barney.Until now.FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reported yesterday that teams have inquired about the 26-year-old second baseman, but that the Cubs have not bitten on any of the offers.Rosenthal writes: "Dont rule out the possibility of the Cubs trading second baseman Darwin Barney. Rival clubs frequently ask about Barney, but none has offered value that the Cubs consider sufficient for a regular second baseman. Barney might end up more of a utility type."In his second full season in the majors, Barney is batting .272 with 3 home runs and 22 RBIs in 64 games this season. His .994 fielding percentage is second best in the National League, behind only Philadelphia's Freddy Galvis (.996).It seems that the Cubs are insistent on receiving value equal to that of a starting second baseman in return for Barney, if they intend on trading him at all.
