Kosuke Fukudome has run out of teams in Chicago.

The White Sox officially released Fukudome on Tuesday after no team claimed him off waivers or proved to be a suitable trade partner. The team had designated the outfielder for assignment on Friday.

Fukudome's career on the South Side was far more short-lived than as a member of the Cubs. The 35-year-old played in only 24 games with the White Sox and batted .171, by far the lowest of his five seasons in Major League Baseball. Prior to his release, Fukudome had been put on the 15-day disabled list on June 4 for a strained right oblique. He had been rehabbing the injury in Charlotte with the team's Triple-A affiliate.

Fukudome had made the National League All-Star team as a rookie with the Cubs but he eventually failed to live up to the expectations that came with his four-year, 48 million contract. The Cubs traded him during the last year of his contract to the Cleveland Indians last season before the deadline for a pair of prospects.
