Sports Business: Impact of Rams move from St. Louis to Los Angeles

Share

The Rams are leaving St. Louis and moving back to Los Angeles for the 2016 season thanks to a 30-2 vote by the NFL owners on Tuesday.

While the future of the Rams is now solidified, with a new stadium scheduled to open in suburban Inglewood in 2019, the decision creates a lot of uncertainty for the future of the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders. The Chargers have been approved and invited to join the Rams in Inglewood, while the Raiders are left with a one-way ticket back to Oakland for the foreseeable future. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will likely be the temporary home for the Rams until the new stadium is completed. USC also plays home games at the Coliseum.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke's new privately funded $2.66 billion Inglewood complex will be a game-changer in Southern California, presenting an attractive domed location for big events like the Super Bowl, Final Four, World Cup and mega concerts and events.
