Sports Business Minute: Economic impact of National Championship

Share

As Clemson and Alabama get set for their National Championship showdown, CSN's Sports Business Insider Rick Horrow exaplains the economic impact of college football's biggest game.

Horrow said the game and all the festivities that surround it are slated to net $150 to $200 million at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Az.

It's an area that is used to hosting big events, with the Super Bowl last season and the NCAA Final Four coming next year.

Horrow also discussed the TV ratings - down about 32 percent on New Year's Eve, as that strategy didn't pay off as well as anybody thought it would.

In closing, Horrow admitted it's too hard to answer some questions right now, with the game still a few days away.

"And, the more important issue, on the field - Clemson offense stopped by the Alabama defense or vice versa," Horrow said. "Obviously more questions than answers. Lawyers can't even answer those questions. Many resolved in the board room after most resolved on the field before."
