Recruiting news and notes: Hersey QB Owen Goldsberry adds to offer list

Glenbard North senior defensive back Josh Flowers (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) was simply one of the top overall performers at Monday night's North Central College satellite camp, which was co-hosted by Iowa State and several other schools. After the camp, Flowers secured his first scholarship offer from Illinois State who watched himat the camp on Monday.

"It feels great," Flowers said. "I had thought that if I went and showed out at the camp that someone would take notice and hopefully one school would offer me."

Flowers, who is now the third Glenbard North starter in its secondary to receive a D1 level offer (Greg Newsome/Northwestern commit and Tyrik Henderson/Minnesota commit). Flowers plans to camp Wednesday night at the North Central College satellite camp and also at Western Michigan on Monday.

Lemont senior wide receiver Austin Nagel (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) was also highly impressive at Monday's satellite camp and added an offer from the Redbirds as well.

"It feels great to get my first offer from Illinois State," Nagel said. "I really had no idea they would offer me. They saw me in school a few times over the spring and seemed to like me but I really didn't hear much from them until tonight (Monday)."

Nagel, who is a cousin of former Lemont and Northwestern standouts Brett and Aaron Nagel and current Northwestern wide receiver Flynn Nagel is also planning to camp Wednesday night at the NCC satellite camp.

Hersey senior quarterback Owen Goldsberry (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) is coming off a very strong spring evaluation period that saw Goldsberry add several new scholarship offers.

"I have seven offers now," Goldsberry said. "I have offers from SIU, WIU, Illinois State, South Dakota State, South Dakota, North Dakota and Indiana State. I've also been in touch with some bigger D1 schools and it's been a good spring for me."

Goldsberry is also drawing scholarship offers at various positions as well.

"Every school seems to have a different idea about me when it comes to a position. Some schools like Illinois State have offered me as a wide receiver. Others like me as a quarterback, outside linebacker and some also like me as a safety. I've always been pretty open to playing any position that helps my team so position isn't a big deal to be honest."

Palatine senior defensive end Bryant Smith  (6-foot-5, 215 pounds) also finished the spring evaluation period strong.

"Colorado State was my last offer a week or two ago," according to Smith. "I have offers now from Colorado State, Wyoming and Western Illinois."

Smith also plans to remains busy this early summer.

"I'm going to camp at North Central College satellite camps on June 6th and June 7th. I'm also planning to go to the Elmhurst College satellite camp along with the Northwestern Showcase camp, plus the NIU one day and also North Dakota State."
