Keegan Thompson appealing 3-game suspension

Cubs pitcher Keegan Thompson is appealing his three-game suspension handed down for intentionally hitting Brewers DH Andrew McCutchen, according to reports.

Thompson will be eligible to pitch until a decision on the appeal comes down.

Thompson and Cubs manager David Ross were each suspended and handed undisclosed fines for Saturday's incident against Milwaukee. Thompson threw consecutive inside pitches to McCutchen, and the second hit him near the right hip.

Ross was suspended one game, which he will serve Tuesday.

The Cubs and Brewers' benches and bullpens cleared as a result of Saturday's incident. The Cubs denied the pitch was intentional, and Ross on Sunday again defended Thompson.

"When you go slider first pitch and get a strike, that was my argument to the umpire," Ross said. "He got a strike on the guy. Everybody's working on stuff."
