Lawrence Taylor said he had edge in high-stakes golf matchups with Michael Jordan

Lawrence Taylor concedes Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player to ever live. In a wide-ranging interview with Steve Serby of the New York Post, he was effusive in his praise of the Bulls’ star.

“He is the best that has ever played the game,” Taylor told Serby. “Most of the time you’re thinking this guy can’t be from the planet Earth, he’s gotta be from somewhere else.” Taylor also lauded Jordan as one the most competitive people he knows, someone who found supreme motivation in any and everything.

Taylor is quite decorated, himself, from a 13-year career with the New York Giants — an NFL MVP, two-time Super Bowl champion and NFC defensive player of the year, 10-time Pro-Bowler and much more.

A career of such esteem comes with a special strain of competitiveness, which Taylor told Serby comes out when the two hit the links. Taylor said he and Jordan used to play golf together once or twice a week, and were especially competitive in the drive game.

They also enjoyed their fair share of high-stakes matchups, which Taylor speculates he had the edge in.

“When it comes to the big money, I may have won more of the big money than he has,” Taylor told Serby. “I wish I had a tally, but we don’t have a tally. It’s not all about money. It’s all about my drive and his drive. I think as far as that goes, we’re pretty even there.”

We’d bet all money in the world Jordan would say otherwise.
