Biggest storyline: Coach Rolando said the Green Wave may have "snuck up on some people" en route to an undefeated conference schedule last year. This year, they'll be the target. Can the Green Wave match last year's efforts and make a deep run in the 2019 postseason?

Names to watch this season: QB Anthony Holte (Sr.) and LB Luke Breier (Sr.)

Biggest holes to fill: The Green Wave played a ton of underclassmen last season and welcome back 18 returning starters (nine offense, nine defense), but overall numbers and depth can always be improved.

EDGY's Early Take: St. Edward and head coach Mike Rolando won last season despite having just 12 upperclassmen on the roster, and another year of experience will only raise the bar come August. The Green Wave will have some challenges on the schedule this fall, including playing 4A state champion IC Prep on Oct. 11. But I also see St. Edward as the team to beat in the Metro Suburban Red.

How they fared in 2017: 5-4 (2-3 Metro Suburban Blue Conference). St. Edward failed to make the 2017 IHSA state playoff field.

2018 Regular Season Schedule:

Aug. 24 vs. Tinley Park

Sept 7 @ Hope Academy

Sept. 14 vs. Elmwood Park

Sept. 22 @ Guerin Prep

Sept. 28 @ Chicago Christian

Oct. 5 vs. IC Catholic Prep

Oct. 12 vs. Fenton

Oct. 19 vs. Ridgewood

Biggest storyline: Can the Green Wave reload and replace several multi-year starters lost to graduation this spring?

Names to watch this season: RB/LB Nick Wright and WR/DB Sidney Muhammed

Biggest holes to fill: The Green Wave will need to replace several graduated starters including standout QB Dylan Mlinarich.

EDGY's Early Take: The Green Wave just missed out on the 2017 state playoff because of low playoff points and will need to reload for this coming season with just two starters back on both sides of the football. Look for St. Edward to get the football into the hands of RB Nick Wright quite a bit this fall while WR Sidney Muhammed will also be another experienced playmaker this fall.

Sept. 15- @ Guerin Prep

Sept. 22 - @ Immaculate Conception

Sept. 29 – vs. Fenton

Oct. 6 - @ Glenbard South

Oct. 14 - vs. Riverside Brookfield

Oct. 20- vs. Wheaton Academy

Biggest storyline: Can St. Edward make some waves in conference play?

Names to watch this season: senior QB Dylan Mlinarich, senior WR Saveon Smith

Biggest holes to fill: St. Edward welcomes back 20 starters from last season, but can they develop some much-needed depth?

EDGY's early take: The Green Wave ran into a buzzsaw in 2016 named the Metro Suburban Blue conference. They failed to win a conference game after posting a strong 4-0 start. They have plenty of varsity experience returning and some impressive names to watch. St. Edward looks to be in a better position to get back into the playoffs this time around. That said, a challenging conference and an opening night tilt against 5A/4A power Metamora await.
