Is Toews “lobbying” Doan to join Blackhawks?

Jonathan Toews spent the last few days at meetings for the NHL Players' Association as they prepare for negotiations toward a new collective bargaining agreement.

He also addressed the offseason drama surrounding teammate Patrick Kane and upcoming free agency -- specifically the status of Phoenix Coyotes right winger and captain Shane Doan.

According to Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times and Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune, Toews is "lobbying" Doan to sign with the Hawks. Granted, Jahns reports Toews said this "with a grin."

Right wing isn't necessarily high on the list of Blackhawks' needs this summer, but he is a tough, gritty winger who would be a nice compliment to either Toews or Kane at center.

Doan, 35, scored 22 goals with 28 assists last season while delivering 205 hits in 79 games. For his career, Doan has played in 1,198 games with 318 goals and 470 assists.
