Urlacher excited for free agency

The Bears have had a long-standing tradition at middle linebacker with Hall of Famers' Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary. Current MLB Brian Urlacher has certainly shown that he belongs in that elite group.

Most fans would expect Urlacher to finish out his career in Chicago just like the other two legendary linebackers, but now there are hints that a perfect ending may not be in the cards.

The 34-year-old Urlacher, who's entering the final year of a five-year contract he signed in 2008, showed signs that he is intrigued by what free agency is all about.

"I think Ted Phillips said when they had the owners meeting they're gonna wait until the season is over," Urlacher said on WMVP-AM 1000 radio Friday morning.

"See what happens, how I play. It's kind of exciting. I've never been a free agent, so if I can get to free agency we'll see what happens."

In 12 seasons with the Bears, Urlacher has topped the 100 tackle mark nine times. In 2011, he finished with 102 tackles, three interceptions, seven passes defended and one touchdown.

Entering his 13th season in Chicago, Urlacher stated his desire to finish out his career with the Bears.

"I no doubt want to finish my career here. There's no doubt about that. But you bring in free agency and all that you just never know what's gonna happen."
