Bill Walton was ranting about hitting baseballs to ‘galaxies yet named' before his White Sox broadcast even started

Bill Walton’s White Sox broadcast hadn’t technically started, but he was already waxing poetic about hitting baseball into far off galaxies.

No, seriously, that’s not an exaggeration.

During White Sox Pregame Live, Walton, filling in for Steve Stone as a guest analyst, explained to play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti how he would swing at a pitch. He did this, by the way, with a tie-dye shirt on (because of course) and had a bat in his hands for the display. The bat may have made Benetti nervous, but Walton continued nonetheless.

“I lean back and then just bam,” Walton said. “And it sails away out through the universe like a radio wave that goes past Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto, through the black hole and to many other galaxies yet named.”

Nevermind that Jupiter is closer to the sun than Saturn so Walton’s hypothetical ball is skipping around the solar system before shooting out to these other galaxies yet named.

Once the game started, Walton was plenty excited for the first swing he saw.

It didn’t take long for Walton to rack up some in-character moments.
