Eloy Jimenez goes on injured list with ankle sprain, Nate Jones joins him

Eloy Jimenez is heading to the injured list after spraining his ankle in Friday's game.

The rookie outfielder looked to suffer a significant injury when his foot got stuck in the outfield wall while attempting to make a catch on a fly ball that ended up going over the fence for a home run. Jimenez was down in pain on the warning track for a while, eventually needing assistance to finish returning to the White Sox dugout and clubhouse. Friday night, the team announced Jimenez had a sprained ankle and that X-rays were negative for a fracture. He was due for an MRI as part of standard procedure Saturday.

Jimenez, who will be re-evaluated in two weeks, will miss time following a three-game stay on the bereavement list. He's slashing .241/.294/.380 in 21 games this season.

Surprisingly, Jimenez was joined Sunday morning by relief pitcher Nate Jones, who was also placed on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. Jones faced four batters and retired two of them in the White Sox most recent game Friday night. He has a 3.48 ERA on the campaign.

Up to take these two roster spots are relievers Aaron Bummer and Thyago Vieira, both recalled from Triple-A Charlotte ahead of Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Vieira has a 5.00 ERA in nine appearances with the Knights this season. Bummer has fared better, with a 2.35 ERA in 7.2 innings of work. The White Sox bullpen can certainly use the reinforcements, as the team's starting pitchers have failed to go five innings in each of the last four games.
