Eloy Jimenez takes step in right direction in return from ankle injury

Eloy Jimenez took another step in the right direction in his recovery from a high right ankle sprain.

Jimenez ran the bases on Saturday before the White Sox matchup against the Blue Jays. The 22-year-old, who has not appeared in a game since April 26, also ran the bases on Friday.

Jimenez landed on the 10-day injured on April 28. He hurt his ankle on April 26 against the Tigers, scaling the left field fence in an attempt to a rob a home run. His foot smashed hard into the padded wall, forcing the rookie slugger to exit the game.

Saturday, White Sox manager Rick Renteria said Jimenez is passing all of the team's tests in his recovery.

"Talking to the trainers, he’s looking very good," Renteria said to reporters in Toronto. "He’s passing all the preliminary tests that we need for him to inch closer to what will hopefully be a rehab stint."

If things continue to trend in the right direction, Jimenez will likely go on a rehab assignment in the near future. Although he is slashing just .241/.294/.380 with three home runs in 21 games, Jimenez will be a welcomed addition to the White Sox lineup.
