Frank Thomas was among those who received false-alarm missile notification in Hawaii

Hawaii is more than 4,000 miles away from the South Side, but one of the greatest White Sox ever was one of the many people in Hawaii who received a false-alarm phone notification that the state was under attack.

Frank Thomas, visiting Hawaii, tweeted Saturday a screenshot of the message sent to his phone and the phones of thousands of others around 8 a.m. local time warning of an incoming ballistic missile.

The alert was a false alarm, a fact that was only transmitted to the recipients of the original notification after more than 30 minutes, according to the Washington Post. Hawaii’s governor said that a state employee erroneously pushed the incorrect button, sending the message out to phones and sparking feelings of panic and uncertainty, as the Big Hurt put it.

Thomas’ reaction was not unique, with plenty of others posting similar messages on social media Saturday.
