Hawk Harrelson's speech pushed to 2021 as Hall of Fame postpones induction

Hawk Harrelson's entry into the broadcasting wing of the Hall of Fame will officially have to wait a year.

The Hall of Fame announced Wednesday that this summer's induction weekend will be postponed to July 2021, delaying the highly anticipated speech from the legendary White Sox broadcaster.

Harrelson was announced as the winner of the Ford C. Frick Award in December, adding him to the broadcasting wing in Cooperstown. Given his longtime appeal to White Sox fans and those who enjoyed his entertaining trademark style, his speech was expected to be must-see TV.

But with the country battling the COVID-19 pandemic, which has hit the State of New York particularly hard, the Hall opted to move the induction of the Class of 2020 to next summer.

That class notably includes longtime New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who was expected to draw a large number of fans to Cooperstown. Jeter's fellow members of the Class of 2020 — Larry Walker, Ted Simmons and Marvin Miller — will also be honored alongside the Class of 2021.

And Harrelson, too, will wait. And White Sox fans will wait to hear the speech from the man who narrated so many seasons of South Side baseball.
