The White Sox rebuild is in full swing. While it might still be a year or two before the big league team is expected to start competing for championships, the minor leagues are stocked with highly touted talent fans will be eagerly following in 2018. With that in mind, it's time to Meet the Prospects and get to know the future of the South Side.

Dane Dunning

Dunning, the 23-year-old right-handed hurler, is one of several exciting young names mentioned as a potential member of the starting rotation of the future for the White Sox.

Dunning was acquired in last winter's deal with the Washington Nationals, with the White Sox sending Adam Eaton to the nation's capital in exchange for three potential rotation pieces in Dunning, Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. The latter two are already at the big league level, while Dunning is expected to spend 2018 continuing to develop in the minors.

A Florida native, Dunning has had great success in the lower levels of the minor leagues so far. A first-round pick of the Nationals in 2016, he put up a 2.02 ERA in 35.2 innings of work in eight starts in his first year as a pro. In 2017, he split time between Class A Kannapolis and Class A Winston-Salem, finishing the season with a 2.94 ERA and 168 strikeouts in 144 innings in 26 starts. He threw a pair of complete-game shutouts last year.

As of their most recent rankings, MLB Pipeline had Dunning rated as the No. 8 prospect in the White Sox organization.
