The last 10 days haven’t gone very well for the White Sox, who fell from the team with the best record in the American League to the No. 7 seed on the Junior Circuit’s side of baseball’s playoff bracket.

But after going 2-8 over their final 10 regular-season games, the team has touted the postseason as an opportunity for a fresh start.

If they’re going to meet their recalibrated playoff expectations and make a deep October run, they’ll have to start by winning the best-of-three opening-round series against the Oakland Athletics, the champions of the AL West and the No. 2 seed.

The White Sox have struggled lately but have also proven themselves capable of flipping a switch and going from a rough patch to a dominant stretch just like that.
