NBC Sports Chicago is simulating the 2020 White Sox season via MLB The Show during the postponement of play. The White Sox, stocked with young talent and veteran offseason acquisitions, were expected to take a big step forward in their rebuild this season. Follow along as we play out the first few months of the season.

Result: Angels def. White Sox 7-0

Record: 10-16, 5th in A.L. Central (6.0 GB of Twins)

W: Julio Teheran (3-1)

L: Lucas Giolito (1-4)

Game Summary: For the fourth straight game, the White Sox came out on the losing end. After ending the home stand roughly against the Royals, the Sox traveled West to take on the Angels with ace and hometown kid Lucas Giolito on the mound. Giolito had swing and miss stuff Thursday striking out 10 in 6-plus innings of work. Unfortunately for Giolito, he made two mistakes to Tommy La Stella and Albert Pujols with each of them homering off the California native.

Giolito was opposed by the Angels offseason transaction Julio Teheran who kept the Sox bats at bay all night allowing only four hits and shutting out the Sox offense in his 7.0 innings of work. The only offensive chance the Southsiders had against Teheran came in the 3rd inning with 2 outs and runners at 1st and 3rd, only to have Jose Abreu pop out to left field. The Chicago 1-6 hitters all went hitless Thursday while the 7-9 hitters were the offense with four hits. During their four-game losing streak, the White Sox have only produced six runs in that span.

Outside of the two home runs given up by Giolito, the Angels offense didn’t take it easy on the Sox pen. A three-run 7th and La Stella homering for the 2nd time in the 8th capped off a rough first night for the Sox in Anaheim.
