Nomar Mazara's home-run drought is over.
The rains finally came in the form of a solo shot to right field off Cincinnati Reds ace Trevor Bauer that broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning of Saturday night's contest. It was Mazara's first home run of the 2020 season and his first long ball in a White Sox uniform after being acquired in an offseason trade with the Texas Rangers.
It came almost a year to the day from his previous homer in a big league game, which he hit in his final game as a Ranger on Sept. 22 last season.

The White Sox sure thought they'd see a lot of that when they made that deal with the Rangers during the Winter Meetings. Mazara hit 79 home runs in his first four major league seasons. The White Sox believed that Mazara, who is still just 25 years old, had plenty of untapped potential that could make him a better all-around hitter.
But perhaps it was trying to do a lot more than just hit homers that prevented Mazara from doing much of anything at the plate in his first season on the South Side. Coming into Saturday night's game, he was slashing just .222/.300/.269 in his 34 games. He didn't even make his White Sox debut until the team's 10th game of this shortened season after spending time on the injured list with an illness.

It hasn't been an easy go of things for Mazara in 2020, but his first home run with the White Sox ought to take some weight off his shoulders. Just in time for the playoffs.
