The White Sox have officially named Reynaldo López their starter for Saturday’s game. It will be his first action in the big leagues since being sent down to Schaumburg after a short start on Sept. 2.
López has made four starts this season, and has yet to make it into the fifth inning. So a key for the White Sox and Rick Renteria will be if López can limit long innings.
“Efficiency, being able to get us a little deeper,” Renteria said. “I’ll have to go back and trace how long we can go with him, but hopefully it’s an efficient outing for him, whatever it is that he gives us.”

López missed nearly a month of the season after he left his first start with shoulder soreness. He labored in his three other starts, only managing nine innings total, while throwing 173 pitches. In those three starts, he also surrendered 11 hits and six walks. Over the whole season, he has an 8.38 ERA with a 2.276 WHIP.
López will take Dallas Keuchel’s spot in the rotation, as Keuchel was placed on the 10-day IL with back spasms on Thursday.
